Hmm, today is 11th Oct 2012. Supposedly to be baby's EDD, which means shes fully 40 weeks old now....
Is she coming already? Been having small pains here and there since 38W. Started to feel more 'severe' pain today...monitoring in progress....

20 Weeks Detailed Scan
Went for 20 weeks detailed scan on 22nd May 2012.
Everything was fine on baby's side (Heartbeat, brain, lungs, size etc) but not on the mom's part. :(
Cervical length was measured to be only at 0.3cm when normal ones should be around 2-3cm.
That, in simple term, will mean that baby has a high chance of 'falling out' from the womb = being delivered.
Medical staffs got into a panic mode, was put on wheelchair immediately. They also mentioned that there is high chance that mummy needs to be admitted, which is what i dread e most. :((
Doc appointment confirmed admission. Was wheeled to the admission dept for procedures arrangements. Took near 2hrs for everything to be settled and wheeled to the ward.
22nd May
Settled at ward at around 6pm, nothing was done today due to the late admission.
23rd May
Docs came on rounds early in the morning, did checks and suggested to do a Cervical Cerclage.
Scheduled to do the surgery in the afternoon and preparation for the surgery starts.
Took two mouthful of e hospital breakfast before doc came, and it had to be forfeited after confirmation to conduct surgery as no food/drink allowed already, good thing the food didnt taste fantastic.
Wheeled to operation theatre around 2pm, preparations (anesthesia etc) for surgery took longer than the surgery itself which lasted around 10mins. Didnt really had time to 'sink in' to the surgery and was wheeled to 'waiting room' for anesthesia to wean off already.
Wheeled back to ward thereafter and was only allowed liquid intake.
24th May
Docs came for rounds to check again..all is good. Hungry like mad but nurse say only liquid intake still (OMG), but requested reconfirmation as heard doc mentioned to take as much food intake as possible to test if body could take it. Nurse came back with good news...:
Was allowed to take 'soothing' food, had this porridge, either with pork floss as seen in pic or fish like the first pic...for 3 meals that day...zzz (OK, better than nothing i guess)
Mom came over with hub, brought bird's nest haha...think she brought oranges too but didnt take it.
Thought got chance to be discharged today, but no doc's confirmation..progression is good though, no vomit after food intake, tube to 'auto' urine was also removed.
25th May
Asked doc if able to be discharged today, doc checked and gave the green light after main doc did the confirmation..woohoo, like finally, got so bored of staying in hospital esp was put on complete bed rest, means even go toilet oso cant and requires nurse assistance, not used to it at all.
Notified hub and he came over around 10+am, was told could go off at 11+, but waited till around 12+ for medicine and procedures etc. Just in time for their lunch intake, took a few mouthfuls here and there, no pic for that cos too enthusiastic to go off. :))
Was given some medicines and notified to go back hosp for weekly proluton injections. That completed my 3 days unexpected hospital stay.

Routine Checkups
Routine checkup on 17th April, which took less than 5 mins.
Basic Q&A from doc on duty, scan to check if baby's fine etc.
Thalassemia results shows Im an Alpha carrier, advised to go for further DNA test to see if hub's affected as well, previous 2 test shows he's negative though...more waiting..
Alpha thalassemia: when the body has a problem producing alpha globin
Alpha globin is made on chromosome 16. So, if any gene that tells chromosome 16 to produce alpha globin is missing or mutated, less alpha globin is made. This affects hemoglobin and decreases the ability of red blood cells to transport oxygen around the body.

Alpha globin is made on chromosome 16. So, if any gene that tells chromosome 16 to produce alpha globin is missing or mutated, less alpha globin is made. This affects hemoglobin and decreases the ability of red blood cells to transport oxygen around the body.
Types of Alpha Thalassemia
Alpha globin is made by four genes and one or more can be mutated or missing, so there are four kinds of alpha thalassemia:- One missing or abnormal gene makes a child a silent alpha thalassemia carrier. Silent alpha thalassemia carriers have no signs or symptoms of the disease, but are able to pass thalassemia on to their children.
- Two missing or mutated genes is a condition called alpha thalassemia minor or having alpha thalassemia trait. Children with this condition may have red blood cells that are smaller than normal (microcytosis) and sometimes very slight anemia.
People with alpha thalassemia minor usually don't have any symptoms at all, but can pass thalassemia on to their children. The two abnormal genes can be on the same chromosome (called the cis position) or one on each chromosome (called the trans position). If two genes on the same chromosome are affected, the person can pass along a two-gene defect to his or her child. This situation is much more common in people of Asian descent. - Three missing or mutated genes is called hemoglobin H disease. Signs and symptoms will be moderate to severe.
- Four missing or mutated genes is a condition known as alpha thalassemia major or hydrops fetalis. This almost always leads to a fetus dying before delivery or a newborn baby dying shortly after birth. However if this disease is suspected because of a history in the family, it can be diagnosed prenatally. Sometimes, if treatment is initiated before the baby is even born, the baby can survive.

More KKH Visits
27th March
Received letter from KKH that there are abnormalities found in my blood test, thus scheduled a further test together with the hub on 27th March.
Abnormalities related to Thalassemia which is also known as the 地中海贫血症. Rather surprised by the results, basically its a genetic defect which was not known in the family till now. Keeping fingers crossed.
28th March
Realized was bleeding in the middle of e night while woke up for weewee break. Woke the hub and he think we should go for a checkup for precautious measures. (They always say need to be on alert mode if bleeding right?)
So hub took leave and we went to the 24hr clinic at KKH in the morning.
Doctor gave me a fright when he couldnt detect baby's heartbeat thru the doppler and was anxiously making calls for assistances. Gotta thank the person he contacted whom advised to put me thru e ultrasound scan...
菜鸟 doctor dont even know how to use e machine and got a nurse to assist. Nurse having quite a hard time to 'catch' baby's heartbeat cos apparently beancurdie's too active and always moving around making it hard to snap down the results.
